Position: Mechanic Helper
Location: Tri River Transit, 753 Marconi Drive, West Hamlin, WV
Job Type: Full-Time

Description:

Tri River Transit is seeking a dependable and motivated Mechanic Helper to assist with the maintenance and repair of our rural public transit vehicles. This position supports the Maintenance Supervisor and mechanics in keeping our fleet safe, reliable, and ready for daily service for the communities we serve.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs diagnostic tests on vehicles and equipment to determine maintenance and repair needs, request parts for needed repairs.
  • Maintains and repairs wheelchair lifts, as specified by the lift manufacture and must follow all ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).
  • Assist Maintenance Mechanic in preventive maintenance schedules per chassis manufacture requirements; such as changing oil, lubricating chassis and equipment, checking batteries and other related duties of vehicle repair.
  • Assist Maintenance Mechanic in servicing all Transit Authority vehicles and equipment providing regularly scheduled oil changes and chassis/parts lubrication.
  • Assist with performing tire repairs and changes, either manually or with a tire-changing machine.
  • Responds to emergency road call and breakdowns of Transit Authority vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintains a safe environment in the garage and maintains vehicles to insure operational safety.
  • Promotes an image of professional, courteous services as a representative of Tri River Transit Authority.
  • Performs related work and duties as needed or assigned by supervisor.
  • Ability to deal with the public, suppliers and bus representatives.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school education or equivalent in order to perform required daily activities.
  • Requires some training or experience providing the ability to perform brakes, and oil change repair and maintenance.
  • Requires at least three (3) years of mechanical experience working on cars, vans or truck/buses.
  • Requires the ability to read work and repair orders and follow their directions either working independently or with a team.
  • Requires passing a pre-employment physical examination certifying the ability to perform required work-related tasks and duties.
  • Requires passing a drug and/or alcohol test on a schedule mandated under FTA rules, which may include, but is not limited to pre-employment, periodic, random, and post-accident.
  • Requires a valid West Virginia CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) within one year of hire date.
